How to Suit Up for Spring

The internet is a weird and wonderful (third) space. Replete with articles regaling us with ideas as to the latest trend and what’s going to be the big thing in 2016 fashion wise. And yet is it possible to find a good, honest article for the average middle class working man about what to look for in a new suit this spring? No it blooming well is not! Let’s remedy that here.

Of course, mens suits must be worn with a shirt and while that’s stating the obvious, it still makes sense to look at shirts, even perhaps before suits as the suit is the more expensive so, you can shop around to find the suit that best matches the colour and styles of a shirt that you have in your wardrobe, or would like to add to your wardrobe this spring.

Tip: Go Mandarin (we’re talking dress shirts, not duck – although duck’s great too!)

There’s something effortlessly stylish about a Mandarin collared dress shirt, we’re sure you’ll agree.

Unless we’re talking football and Chelsea, 2016 is destined to be the year of the blues. Grey suits are dominating somewhat and blue – especially a lovely borderline duck egg (sorry can’t get past the duck puns) blue – goes great with all manner of greys as well as black, so really you have all bases covered. Mandarin collared dress shirts will afford you the opportunity to stand out, without feeling uncomfortably different. Synergy in simplicity and style.

In terms of suits, the pervasive trend heading into spring 2016 is for a trim fit. It looks like suits will be loosening a little but still, slim fits will continue to dominate and that is another reason why Mandarin collared dress shirts are a great choice, perfectly complementing as they do, the slimmer fitting suits. And don’t worry if you require a larger size suit we have suits for big men!

Tip: Don’t be afraid to go blue either as blues are going to be big all round this spring.

Suits are no exception. Matching different shades of blue with suit and shirt choices can be breath-taking if done correctly. A navy suit with a soft blue shirt like the one we showed before is a strong, bold option.

When it comes to accessorizing, the probable rise of wrist accessories like Apple watches, FitBit and a resurgence in the wrist watch in general will probably make rolled up sleeves a common sight all over the country.

Tip: Go minimal and cold wave with your watch

There’s little more in fashion right now than Scandinavian simplicity and the sort of ‘80s cold wave revivalism seen in the ranges of the likes of All Saints. Strong, stark designs with no fuss and an industrial simplicity. If you’d like to dabble in this strong idea with your time piece, then I’ve seen few to match Kitmen Keung for style, quality and price.

Although it will set you back around £275, which in the world of crazily priced watches is a snip.
